Birmingham Irish Association

The organisation was kindly awarded £3,000 from the Irish Youth Foundation which was a contribution towards the overall employment costs of the Bereavement Support Worker.

The impact that the grant has had on our young children has been overwhelming. The continued financial support from the IYF has enabled us to support a full time support worker to carry out this most valuable work for our community. The worker is operating on a full time basis across the city not only providing one to one support but also holding group sessions and family based interventions where required. We map the impact and outcomes to the clients of the project by creating detailed support plans and reviews as part of the service offer. Support plans are drawn up in conjunction with the young person and these are carefully reviewed and updated as the support is delivered. The use of our Outcome Star demonstrates changes and improvements in a child’s journey through the bereavement process. From the 1st September project start date to the end of December 2018 we have worked with 108 children on an individual one to one basis, through workshops and 34 families who are the extended family of the children we work with directly. This is a great achievement and has exceeded our expectations.
